Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book an appointment?

You can speak with your GP who can make a referral to me or, if you prefer, you can email me directly.  A range of appointment days/times are available, and I will try to accommodate your individual needs.  A short waiting list may be in operation.

Does seeing you commit me to attending therapy?

No.  I suggest an initial assessment is arranged to begin with; you are under no obligation to continue into therapy. The assessment gives you the opportunity to see how you respond to the therapeutic encounter, gives us the chance to discuss expectations and work out if treatment would be helpful, and think about how comfortable the fit is between us and whether we might work together.  If you want to pursue therapy but feel an alternative therapist might be more suitable, I will try and help you to find an appropriate individual.

Will other people know about what we talk about?

I maintain the strictest standards of confidentiality. From time to time I will seek consultation with a senior colleague in accordance with British Psychological Society professional practice guidelines on supervision. Your surname name and any other information which could identify you will not be revealed. I am also supported by a secretary, who is bound by confidentiality. Apart from these exceptions and exceptional circumstances pertaining to risk, I would always seek your permission before discussing any aspect of our work with anyone else.

How can I pay for these sessions?

You pay directly by bacs transfer 48 hours in advance of sessions. You may be able to reclaim fees through your insurance comany and an invoice/receipt can be provided for this purpose. It is your responsibility to determine the exact benefits provided by your policy.

Do you operate a reduced-fee scheme?

No. I am happy to provide advice about other options including NHS services that may be appropriate if costs feel prohibitive.

I’m still not sure...

As well as helping clients understand and manage their difficulties better, there is value in having a ‘good experience’ of talking therapy within a safe, secure and trusting relationship. I recognise how challenging it can feel to come to a psychological session for the first time, and every effort is made to try and make it as comfortable as possible. Therefore, if you still have questions, please do contact me and I will be happy to discuss this  with you further.
